It's been a great week - Manuel Elvira finds the positives after Wentworth heartbreak

Manuel Elvira was finding the positives despite a "devastating" double-bogey end to his bid for a first professional win at the BMW PGA Championship.

The Spaniard entered the final day at Wentworth Club in a share of the lead and when he made a spectacular eagle on the 17th, he was back in that position and a slight favourite for the title with the gettable par-five last to come.

A Rolex Series victory would have almost doubled Elvira's career DP World Tour earnings and with brother and three-time winner Nacho watching on, he hit a solid iron off the 18th tee before a disappointing second left him in a fairway bunker.

He then flew the green with his third and, knowing he needed to get up and down to force a play-off, he found sand again.

He eventually signed for a seven to finish in a share of second behind JJ Spaun but was able to see the bigger picture through the pain of defeat.

"I've played some of the best golf probably of my life," he said. "I was in contention and I wasn't really that nervous. Maybe coming off the 72nd hole but I managed to hit a good tee shot and unfortunately hit a bad second shot.

"It's been a great week and I'm really glad for it.

"I was more nervous before the round. But I managed to breathe a little bit and just told myself, 'Just enjoy, have fun. They can't take it away from you, playing on the last group on Sunday at Wentworth'

"I just saw (Nacho) on 16 green. Obviously there was a lot of people. I could see them in the crowd, my girlfriend, my manager, my brother, and it was amazing to have their support."

On the final hole, he added: "Devastating that I hit the wrong shot at the right time on the lay up and left myself the toughest shot in the fairway bunker and wasn't able to pull it off."
