Having only taken up golf at the age of 13, Laurie went on to win the South African Amateur Championship in 2010, a trip he saved up for by working at the nine-hole course across the road from his home. After winning the 2011 Spanish Amateur Open Championship he decided to turn professional.

Won his first professional title at The Players Club on the Jamega Pro Golf Tour in 2015. Later that year he would earn playing rights for the DP World Tour after successful navigating qualifying school for the first time.

It was the first of three consecutive years he earned playing rights at Qualifying School – 2015, 2016 and 2017 – also doing so in 2019.

Enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2020 finishing 19th in the Race to Dubai thanks to 5 Top 10 performances including two well-fought runner up finishes at the Portugal Masters and the Italian Open.

Made the most of limited playing opportunities at the start of the 2024 Race to Dubai, finishing fourth and then second in back-to-back starts. Claimed a maiden DP World Tour title later that season at the European Open, and was in the field by virtue of his strong opening season performances.

Won his second DP World Tour title the following year at the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship, defeating Dan Brown and Pablo Larrazábal in a play-off, and winning the Open Swing in the process.

His seventh-place finish on the 2025 Race to Dubai earned him dual membership with the PGA TOUR for 2026.
