Tommy Fleetwood excited to fight for first DP World Tour Championship win

Tommy Fleetwood is excited to go into the final round with the chance to claim a "very, very special" first DP World Tour Championship win after two previous runners-up finishes.

The Englishman has enjoyed a stellar year, ending his long wait for a first PGA TOUR title at the Tour Championship to capture the FedExCup in August, playing a key role in Europe's historic away Ryder Cup victory at Bethpage Black in September and winning the DP World India Championship last month before losing out to Aaron Rai in a tense play-off last Sunday.

Now a Dubai resident, Fleetwood - who finished second at this event in 2019 and 2023 - insists a victory at Jumeirah Golf Estates on Sunday would mean a lot to him.

He sits one shot off the lead on 12 under heading into the final round after firing four birdies in a spotless 68 on Saturday.

And although he will have to fight off the likes of co-leader Rory McIlroy and fellow Ryder Cup team-mates Tyrrell Hatton, Rasmus Højgaard and Matt Fitzpatrick if he is to win, Fleetwood is pleased to be in the hunt with 18 holes remaining.

He said: "It means so much.

"Every individual event has its different meanings to you. This one would be very, very special.

"I'm really happy that I get to go out tomorrow with a chance to win. Happy that I'll get to start the day with that anticipation, with those feelings, with those nerves.

"And I'll work really hard to make sure or try and make sure that I'm in contention, turn into that back nine and see what we can do there.

"Tomorrow will be a great day. I'd really love to play some great golf and give people something to cheer about. It's turning into a very, very special event for me.

"And again, talking about frustrations, a couple of times I've been so close to winning this. Yeah, I'd love to be able to stand there at the end of what's been a great season and win another trophy but we'll see.

"It's amazing how many people are in contention and just how tight and how small the margins are out there."
