The Spaniard currently sits sixth on the Road to Mallorca Rankings through eight events of the 29-tournament schedule, having secured a maiden HotelPlanner Tour win in the Delhi Challenge in March to boost his early season promotion hopes.

The 25-year-old says the win in India came at the perfect time as he targets more success with the Road to Mallorca arriving in Europe for the first time this term.

“I feel more relaxed since I got the win,” he said. “Now I can play more relaxed and that gives me more confidence.

“It’s good to start the European events which are a bit closer to home and I’m feeling good. This is a course that I know which helps as I’ve played a few rounds up here, so we’ll see how it goes.

“It’s good to be here. It’s a little cold but this is a very nice place to be.”

Vidal lives an hour from the Girona course which has been a DP World Tour Qualifying School venue in each of the last two seasons, and is hoping to make home advantage count when play gets under way on Thursday.

“I played DP World Tour Second Stage Qualifying School a couple of years ago,” he added. “The grass is pretty similar to what I have at home, however the course is at altitude, so you have to adjust.

“The rough is going to be long and there are many small trees here, so you have to hit it pretty straight. The course is also soft as it’s been raining a lot, so you need to be smart and have a lot of control of your spin.”

Vidal is part of a stellar field for the 26th edition of the Challenge de España that includes seven-time DP World Tour winner, Alvaro Quiros, and Road to Mallorca Number Two, Renato Paratore, who would become the first player in HotelPlanner Tour history to win three events in successive starts should he triumph.
