Quim Vidal holds a one-stroke lead after a weather-affected second day of the Open de Portugal at Royal Óbidos.
With heavy fog suspending play early on Friday, Vidal, one of the late starters, mixed five birdies with a bogey to reach ten under par before bad light cut his round three holes short.
The 25-year-old, who opened with a six under par 65 on Thursday, kicked off day two with a gain on the tenth before adding back-to-back birdies on holes 12 and 13. Vidal then picked up another shot on the par five 18th to head out in just 32 strokes.
After making the turn, the Spaniard birdied the testing second before dropping his only shot of the day on the fourth, just before play was suspended.
“I just wanted to get finished at the end there,” he said after ending his round on the par three sixth. “The greens were getting hard to read and it was difficult to see the putts go in.
“I started my round well. I was hitting the ball well and made a nice putt on the first, but that was probably the only one I made all day.”
Scotsman David Law sits one shot back of Vidal after signing for a five under par second round of 66 to reach nine under par for the week.
Law, who sits at the summit of the season-long Road to Mallorca Rankings, was pleased to get in the clubhouse with light quickly fading late in the day.
“Just trying to get finished was the main thing at the end there,” he said.
“I had 225 into the last and normally you would go for that, but I decided to lay-up and make five.
“I had a really good day overall, tee-to-green was really solid, so I am happy.”
Law is chasing a third win of the season and an immediate return to the DP World Tour this week, and the Scot is looking to impress over the next 36 holes before taking time away from the course.
“The last couple of weeks I feel like I am running on empty,” he added. “I was tired last week in Poland but this week I feel a little bit better.
“I know I am not playing next week so I’ll have three weeks off coming up so it will be great to finish and have a good week before we go to China.”
The second round of the Open de Portugal at Royal Óbidos will resume at 8:00am on Saturday morning with Vidal finishing his final three holes alongside Frenchman Oihan Guillamoundeguy and Englishman Jamie Rutherford.
Round three of the Open de Portugal at Royal Óbidos will not start before 10:00am local time.
