Lars van Meijel and Daniel Young will share a one-shot lead with Stefano Mazzoli, Félix Mory and Euan Walker heading into the weekend of the Rolex Grand Final supported by The R&A.
Dutchman Van Meijel and Scotsman Young both posted four under par rounds of 68 at Club de Golf Alcanada to move to eight under par and set the clubhouse target, before Mazzoli, Mory and Walker joined them at the top of the leaderboard.
The Rolex Grand Final is the 29th and final event on the HotelPlanner Tour’s 2025 Road to Mallorca schedule, with the 45-man field in Alcúdia battling it out for one of the 20 coveted DP World Tour cards on offer.
Van Meijel made five birdies and just one blemish in his round of 68 and is now projected to climb 19 places into 16th on the Road to Mallorca Rankings, while Young, who entered the season finale in eighth position on the Road to Mallorca Rankings, carded eight birdies and four bogeys on day two.
"I’m happy," said Van Meijel. "I played really well today. The wind was a different wind today which made it trickier and the par fives were playing tougher but I stayed patient especially at the start of the round which is tougher. I then took advantage of the back nine.
"You have two par fives [on the back nine], with one reachable one, so you have a couple of chances. It’s a bit wider off the tee too. I’m just trying to be super committed to every swing I make."
"I would’ve taken another four under," said Young. "It probably wasn’t quite as clean as yesterday. A few more birdies and a few more bogeys so it was a bit up and down. I thought it was bit trickier today with the wind, and the front nine is tricky. It’s awkward.
"I think you’ve just got to be patient. My game has been good coming in here, so I know it’s solid enough to make some birdies. The greens are very good so you can make some putts. You’re going to get chances."
Overnight leader Walker made a slow start to the second round and two bogeys on his front nine saw him slip down the leaderboard, however he bounced back brilliantly with an eagle two at the par four 15th hole and a closing birdie on the 18th to regain his position at the summit.
Mazzoli and Mory were playing with Walker in the final group, and they were delighted to join a share of the lead, one ahead of Scotland’s David Law in sixth position.
Two-time DP World Tour winner James Morrison carded a brilliant five under par 67 to climb into seventh position alongside Norwegian Baard Skogen, Spaniard Rocco Repetto Taylor and Italian Renato Paratore on six under par.
South African JC Ritchie occupies a share of 14th place on four under par and he is projected to finish the season as the Road to Mallorca Number One, while Law is projected to finish second.
