The Road to Mallorca returns to the Netherlands for the first time in two years this week. Here’s all you need to know about The Dutch Futures, taking place at The Dutch, Spijk.
Return to the schedule
After 16 years away, The Dutch Futures returns to the HotelPlanner Tour having previously held a spot on the schedule from 2007-2009. The event will be run in partnership with the Clutch Pro Tour, which is one of the Official Satellite Tours of the HotelPlanner Tour. George Bloor, currently embarking on a second straight year on the HotelPlanner Tour, topped the Clutch Pro Tour Order of Merit in 2023.
Callan Barrow, Gary King and Ryan Evans all returned to the HotelPlanner Tour in 2025 after occupying the top three spots on the Clutch Pro Tour’s season-long Order of Merit, and all three will tee it up at this week’s event in the Netherlands.
DP World Tour venue
The Dutch, located in the heart of the Netherlands, is part of European Tour Destinations, a collection of world class venues which have close affiliation to the European Tour group. The 18-hole Championship golf course, designed by 2010 Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie, features an inland links feel, including gorse bushes and undulating fairways. This week’s venue also has DP World Tour heritage, having held the KLM Open from 2016-2018 as well as hosting the HotelPlanner Tour’s B-NL Challenge Trophy in 2021. Romaine Wattel, part of this week’s field, landed a maiden DP World Tour victory at the KLM in 2017 after ending the week on 15 under par, one shot clear of Canadian Austin Connelly.
The stunning inland links is regarded as the country’s standout facility in terms of quality, durability and playability, whilst also putting sustainability at the forefront of the course’s management. The field at the 2025 Dutch Futures will be treated to one of the finest courses they will play all year.
History in the Netherlands
Despite the HotelPlanner Tour not visiting the Netherlands as frequently as other European destinations, a host of big name winners have emerged in the country over the years.
The Road to Mallorca last visited the country in 2023 for the B-NL Challenge Trophy at Twentsche GC, which was won by Sweden’s Jesper Svensson, the same year he sealed promotion to the DP World Tour. Two years earlier, the same event was held at The Dutch as Alfredo Garcia-Heredia prevailed in a dramatic four-way play-off after finishing with a 72-hole total of 11 under par.
