Tournament Guide: GAC Rosa Challenge Tour

Back-to-back years in Poland

Rosa Golf Club (3)

Rosa Golf Club hosts an event on the Road to Mallorca for the second successive year after making its first appearance on the schedule 12 months ago. That marked the Tour’s first trip to Poland in 15 years, with the 2025 tournament set to become the eighth time the country has been on hosting duties since the HotelPlanner Tour’s inception in 1989. Four of those visits came in consecutive years from 1996-1999, before the DHL Wroclaw Open brought HotelPlanner Tour golf back to the country in 2008 and 2009 after a nine-year absence.

Last year’s victor

Angel Ayora (17)

This time last year it was Spaniard Angel Ayora who produced a four-day clinic to ease to a three-stroke victory at Rosa Golf Club. Ayora was just 19 years old at the time, and his maiden professional victory would prove to be a telling one as he would go on to secure promotion to the DP World Tour just two months later. It was a coming-of-age week for Ayora, with rounds of 66-65-66 over the opening three days ensuring he could ease home with a closing 70 on day four.

Ayora has since gone on to impress on golf’s Global Tour, recording four top tens in his debut season to sit 41st on the Race to Dubai. The omens could be good for whoever triumphs this week.

Rosa Golf Club (2)

Rosa Golf Club makes its second appearance on the HotelPlanner Tour this week and does so as one of the finest golf courses in the country. Situated in the city of Czestochowa, it was designed by architect Hans-Georg Erhardt and opened its doors in 2005. The parkland layout was built to exacting USGA specification, with the build process seeing over a million cubic metres shifted during construction.

Water hazards are a feature throughout the golf course, with interconnected lakes creating several intimidating approach shots. The 192-metre 14th and 172-metre 17th are two testing par threes on the back nine, with both protected by water.

The facilities are also second-to-none, with 80 driving range bays, a 1,500m square practice putting green and a modern clubhouse to rival most others.

All to play for

It’s crunch time on the Road to Mallorca, with each player in the field hoping for a positive end to the season. For three players – Daniel van Tonder, Renato Paratore and current Number One David Law – there’s the opportunity to earn automatic promotion to the DP World Tour by claiming a third win of the season. All three players currently reside inside the top 20 on the Rankings, with the top 20 come the end of the season earning promotion.

Outside of that, players will be looking to prolong their season. Those set to tee it up in Poland, Portugal and Italy over the next three weeks have the opportunity to force their way into the top 68 in the Rankings for back-to-back events in China. Two weeks in Asia mark the 27th and 28th events of the 29-event season and a final opportunity to climb into the top 45 and guarantee a place in the field for the season-ending Rolex Grand Final supported by The R&A. That provides the final opportunity to make sure of one of the life-changing DP World Tour cards on offer this season. Will anyone make a move in Poland this week?
