Stars of sport, TV and music took on Wentworth Club's famous West Course on Wednesday at the BMW PGA Championship Pro-Am.

The gathering of talent has become the traditional curtain-raiser for the Rolex Series Festival of Golf and fans lined the fairways to see high-profile stars from all backgrounds test themselves alongside the professionals.

Defending champion and famed West Ham fan Billy Horschel will have got a thrill from playing with former Hammer Teddy Sheringham in a group that also contained more footballing royalty in Gareth Bale and a sporting Sir in two-time Wimbledon and Olympic champion Andy Murray.

And it was Bale, a man whose love for golf is famous (some in Madrid would say infamous) who produced the longest amateur drive of the day.

While Murray got the crowds cheering with an eagle.

Musician Tom Grennan was in the other group off the first but his tee shots were not quite as successful.

Hollywood star Kathryn Newton brought some A-list impact to Aaron Rai's group, while sports broadcaster Clare Balding was guaranteed a laugh alongside comedians Michael MacIntyre and Alex Horne.

Shane Lowry played with a trio of England rugby union stars in Marcus Smith, Jamie George and Ben Earl but it was another sporting trio who took top spot in the morning, with footballers John Terry and Robbie Fowler and former GB hockey player and Olympic gold medalist Sam Quek finishing at 34 under alongside Brooks Koepka.

British and Irish Lions Finn Russell and Owen Farrell along with former Lionesses captain Steph Houghton were in the company of Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald in the afternoon and it's safe to say the skipper was impressed with what he saw.

And there was a sea of papaya in the bumper crowds out to support McLaren Formula One star Lando Norris despite the rain.

2016 Masters champion Danny Willett teed it up with TV presenters Dan Walker and Vernon Kay and former Red Bull F1 mechanic and pit-stop specialist Calum Nicholas.
