The two-time DP World Tour winner, who entered the week in 36th position on the Road to Mallorca Rankings, carded a bogey-free seven under par round of 65 at Club de Golf Alcanada to move to 13 under, three ahead of Scotland’s Euan Walker and South African Daniel van Tonder.

The Englishman, who has 13-year-old son Finley caddying for him this week, started the day two shots off the lead but birdies at the first, fourth, fifth and seventh saw him turn at four under par for the day and climb into pole position on the leaderboard.

The 40-year-old made three more gains on the 13th, 15th and 18th to extend his lead to three ahead of the final day in Alcúdia.

Morrison, who has 438 DP World Tour appearances to his name, is projected to climb to eighth position on the Rankings with victory this week and return to Golf’s Global Tour. The top 20 on the Rankings at the conclusion of the Rolex Grand Final will earn DP World Tour playing privileges for 2026.

He would also become the seventh Englishman to win the Rolex Grand Final after Marco Penge (2023), Nathan Kimsey (2022), Matt Haines (2010), James Hepworth (2006), Richard Bland (2001) and Ian Garbutt (1996).

"I felt fine again today," he said. "It’s all about routine and sticking to what you’re doing every day and I’ve done that. I’ve played nicely today. Played great at the start of the round, a bit of a wonky middle patch, got lucky on ten but made a great four there, and battled around the middle part of that back nine, then finished strongly, so very happy.

"To do it like that is very special. I’ve still got one day to go. I’ve been here before so many times on the DP World Tour. I could shoot 105 tomorrow, I could shoot 65, I’m open to any of that and I’ve been there and done that both ways. I’ll do the same thing tonight with the family and come to the course tomorrow and see what happens.

"I didn’t quite get the speed of the greens at the start of the week but I’m feeling a bit more comfortable on the greens now. Putting is my strength, so if I can lean into my short game tomorrow then I should do okay. I held all of the right putts today, especially on the back nine. You’ve got to lean on previous experiences and I look around at the guys in the field behind me and they’ve never won on the DP World Tour. I’ve got to try and tell myself I’m the experienced man here and that I’ve done it before. I’ve got to keep going with that theory."

Englishman Joshua Berry and Italian Stefano Mazzoli share fourth position on nine under par, while Frenchman Félix Mory, Swede Albin Bergstrom and JC Ritchie are a shot further back in sixth.

Ritchie is projected to finish the season as HotelPlanner Tour Number One and would become the first player from South Africa to win the Rankings.
