Kleu keen to continue upward trajectory in Poland

Ronan Kleu is looking to continue climbing the Road to Mallorca Rankings when he tees it up in the GAC Rosa Challenge Tour at Rosa Golf Club in Poland this week.

The Swiss played in the Omega European Masters on the DP World Tour in his home country last week, finishing tied 24th to conclude an impressive August.

The 25-year-old finished in second place two weeks earlier in the Irish Challenge, with those results seeing him climb to 52nd in the Rankings, boosting his confidence at a crucial time of the season.

“Last week was great on the DP World Tour in front of some big crowds,” he said.

“I shot five under to be high up on the leaderboard to start with. I felt a little bit of pressure in the second round just because it is a big stage but after that I felt really comfortable in front of the crowds.

“Last week was great for the confidence, because I did feel comfortable out there and I could see how my game compared to the top players.”

Kleu now has three events to make sure he remains inside the top 68 that will travel to China for back-to-back weeks in October, but he has his eyes on the season-ending Rolex Grand Final supported by The R&A, where the leading 45 players will tee it up.

“My goal for the season was to play the Rolex Grand Final in Mallorca,” he added.

“When you’re a little further back in the Rankings, you just want that good week, and I’ve had that result, so now I’m looking forward to China and hopefully Mallorca.

“I’ve looked back at the points in the Rankings from the last couple of years to see where the cut off was, but you just never know. I’m feeling good with my game, so I’ll try to make the best of all these weeks.”

Kleu will tee off on Thursday looking to use past knowledge of Rosa Golf Club to his advantage, having played here 12 months ago.

“The course here is in great shape,” he added. “It should be pretty scoreable depending on what the wind does, and I’m really looking forward to the challenge.

“You’ve got to choose where you want to be aggressive. Some shots I feel you have to take on as the reward is greater than the risk, and then some you might want to step back.

“It’s like every golf course, you have to put yourself in good positions and putt nicely and it’ll give you some good opportunities.”

Kleu joins a strong field in Poland that includes Road to Mallorca Number One David Law and DP World Tour winners Adri Arnaus and David Horsey.
