Jonsson out to impress on home soil

Tobias Jonsson will be looking to boost his chances of promotion to the DP World Tour when he tees it up on home soil at this week’s Dormy Open at Upsala GolfKlubb.

The Swede, who currently sits 21st on the season-long Road to Mallorca Rankings, began 2025 relying on invitations before back-to-back top five finishes at the Swiss Challenge and Raiffeisenbank Golf Challenge earned him further HotelPlanner Tour playing privileges.

Having now teed it up in 11 events on the Road to Mallorca, Jonsson admitted it’s been a season of change after starting the year on the Nordic Golf League, one of the HotelPlanner Tour’s Official Satellite Tours.

“It’s been a weird season having started off with no category and playing on invites,” he said. “Now I am in a position where I can earn a DP World Tour card which is really exciting.

“I started the season on the Nordic Golf League and took the risk to play on invites and now I am fighting to get a card; a lot of things have changed during the year.

“There are a few tournaments left, and I am really excited to hopefully have a good finish.”

Jonsson arrives in Uppsala fresh of finishing inside the top 25 at The Dutch Futures, after posting three consecutive rounds in the 60s to end the week five under par, ten shots back of winner, Italian Filippo Celli.

Having performed well in testing conditions at The Dutch, the Swede feels well prepared ahead of teeing it up on home soil.

“The first day in Holland I didn’t know where the ball was going but then I figured something out and started to play some really good golf,” he added. “I probably played better than what the score showed, which is a little frustrating.

“Last week was a championship-style golf course; you can’t be short sided out there. Here you can go at the pin a bit more and be more aggressive. Still, last week was good preparation for this week and the rest of the season.”

With home support set to be strong in Uppsala, Jonsson is also relishing the chance to put in yet another positive display and boost his chances of securing promotion to the DP World Tour for the first time.

“I’m very excited to play here,” the Swede added.

“It’s going to be fun and hopefully a lot of friends and family will come down. There might be 20 or 30 of my friends coming out if I make the cut, so if I do there will be a lot of people here.

“I’ve been up here a lot because my coach if from here, but I haven’t played the course too many times. The quality is excellent. The fairways and greens are really good, the greens are a little bit slower this week, but it will still be good. I think it’s a course that suits me well.”

Jonsson is part of a strong field at the Dormy Open, which includes South African Daniel van Tonder and Italian Renato Paratore, both two-time winners on the Road to Mallorca this year, two-time DP World Tour winner James Morrison and The Dutch Futures victor, Celli.
