Giboudot looking to keep season going in Italy

Maxence Giboudot is hoping to prolong his season with a strong outing in the Italian Challenge Open at Golf Nazionale this week.

The Frenchman currently sits 70th in the season-long Road to Mallorca Rankings with four events remaining, and with the leading 68 players following four rounds in Italy punching their ticket to back-to-back events in China next month.

Giboudot, despite being aware of what’s at stake, is trying to treat this week like any other tournament.

“I can say that I don’t really think about it, but I do,” he said. “It’s like every tournament though, in that I want to do my best.

“I put every player around me in the Rankings on ‘favourite’ so I can see their results.

“I don’t want to focus on making the cut, or getting some Ranking points, because I don’t think that’s the way I’ll do my best. I’ll just be trying to do like every other tournament and if I can win, I’ll take it.”

Giboudot has been in this position before, finishing tied second 12 months ago in the Czech Republic to force his way into the China events.

A full year on, and the 21-year-old is hoping to remain in the hunt for automatic promotion by ensuring he tees it up in China, as he looks to follow in the footsteps of his compatriots who have enjoyed success in 2025.

“I was 120 in the Rankings before the last tournament 12 months ago and finished tied second to make it to China,” he added. “It’s a bit easier this year, but something still needs to happen.

“I grew up playing with Martin Couvra and Oihan Guillamoundeguy, so seeing their success tells me that I can do it and I just need to be patient for my time.

“It hasn’t worked out for me the last two weeks but I really like this course, where you have to put the ball where you want and you don’t have to hit it too far.

“It’s tough around the greens as they’re very small. I’ve enjoyed practicing here and I can’t wait to be on the first tee now.”

Giboudot is part of a strong field in Italy that includes home favourites Renato Paratore and Filippo Celli, who both sit inside the top five on the Road to Mallorca, and DP World Tour winners Eddie Pepperell and Adri Arnaus.
