Eugenio Chacarra admitted enjoying his occupation remains his main goal after the recent DP World Tour winner moved into contention once again at the Volvo China Open.
The Spaniard celebrated his maiden DP World Tour title at last month's Hero Indian Open on just his ninth appearance, where he only got into the tournament on an invite.
Chacarra has built on this at Enhance Anting Golf Club, where he was among the early starters on Thursday, as he set the initial clubhouse target of 65 thanks to seven birdies and one dropped shot.
Only Finland's Tapio Pulkkanen overhauled his six-under-par score courtesy of a new course record 62, which yielded an eagle and seven birdies.
Despite sitting in solo second after the first round, the 25-year-old Chacarra insists health and enjoyment remains his priority in Shanghai.
"It’s nice to start in a good way," the Spaniard said. "The round was solid from the start. I didn’t make birdie on the first two, which played easy with no wind in the morning, but I knew my game was there. I hit the ball well, made some putts and I’m happy with the start.
"Momentum was great. It was all going my way, putts were going in, I was getting good numbers in the fairway and executing well.
"That bogey on 13, I hit a great drive into the fairway, but ended in a divot. It was unlucky, so that didn’t bother me too much. Luckily, I hit a good shot on 14 to make a birdie.
"I’m just enjoying playing golf again. It’s all about me. I’m healthy, I’m happy and love the game of golf and I’ve been doing that and it’s working out.
"Hopefully I can keep doing that, and if I shoot six under or two over, if I finish the round enjoying golf, that’s my goal every day. It has been fun."
