The 2026 Road to Mallorca arrives in Cape Town this week for the CIRCA Cape Town Open, the second of four co-sanctioned events between the HotelPlanner Tour and the Sunshine Tour. Here are three players to keep an eye on in the Mother City…
Form horse: MJ Viljoen
MJ Viljoen claimed a maiden HotelPlanner Tour title at the SDC Open last week, doing so in dramatic fashion. Needing a birdie on the 72nd hole to play-off hole, he did just that before returning to birdie the first extra hole to win at Zebula Golf Estate & Spa. The South African carded rounds of 66-70-66-70 to finish the week on 16 under par and at the early stage of the season tops the Road to Mallorca Rankings. He’ll be looking to continue his fast start to the campaign with another strong outing in Cape Town.
Local Boy: Deon Germishuys
For our local boy this week, look no further than the man that narrowly missed out on a maiden HotelPlanner Tour victory last week, Deon Germishuys. After climbing into contention with a final-round five under par 67 at Zebula, he would narrowly miss out out to Viljoen in a play-off. The South African, who grew up playing junior golf at Royal Cape Golf Club, has every chance of success this week and he will be looking to add a third promotion to the DP World Tour to his name after graduating in 20th and 15th place on the 2022 and 2024 Road to Mallorca.
Outsider: Calum Fyfe
Calum Fyfe enjoyed his best season to date as a professional last year, recording three top ten finishes on his way to finishing 29th on the Road to Mallorca Rankings. The Scotsman also impressed on his second appearance at Royal Cape Golf Club 12 months ago, carding rounds of 69-70-70-71 to end the week on eight under par and in a share of 11th place. With Royal Cape known for blustery conditions, Fyfe could see that as an advantage with his Scottish roots.
