Kipp Popert takes control in bid for more G4D Tour silverware at Wentworth

Kipp Popert is on course to win the G4D Tour @ BMW PGA Championship for a fourth consecutive year after building a commanding seven-shot lead after the first round.

The Englishman, the World Number One, has been the dominant force since the inception of the G4D Tour in 2022, winning this event in each of the three previous editions.

On the back of winning a 14th title as both an individual and team member on the G4D Tour at the Amgen Irish Open last week, Popert produced a sublime seven-under-par 66 on the opening day at Wentworth Club.

Popert, who missed the first half of the year following foot surgery, mixed eight birdies with one bogey over the West Course – a venue which he says he feels increasingly more at home – on Monday to take control.

"I played really good," he said. "I like this golf course, I look forward to it every year.

"I would have liked to have had nine birdies but I will take eight. I had a really good day.

"I am pretty pleased with how I managed myself the whole day."

No other player in the ten-player mixed field managed to break par, with Australian Lachlan Wood his nearest challenger at level par after a 73 that featured four birdies and four pars.

Kurtis Barkley is third on the leaderboard at the two-day tournament after a 75, with England’s Mike Browne a shot further back.

The G4D Tour @ BMW PGA Championship is the fifth event of the 2025 G4D Tour season, with the leading players from the Net world rankings taking part in the FedEx Open de France next week, before the season-ending G4D Tour @ Rolex Grand Final takes place in Mallorca next month.
