Kipp Popert is targeting a fourth successive G4D Tour @ BMW PGA Championship title when he tees it up at Wentworth Club next week.
The Englishman has won each edition of the event since the G4D Tour’s inception in 2022, with rounds of 71-69 on the famous West Course 12 months ago seeing him run out a four-stroke victor.
Popert arrives in Surrey for the two-day tournament which begins on Monday in fine form, having scooped a 14th title as both an individual and team member on the G4D Tour at the Amgen Irish Open four days ago.
The 27-year-old is relishing the prospect of returning to Wentworth as the defending champion, on a course that feels more like home each year.
“It’s a really special place,” he said. “I am delighted to be playing at Wentworth and in the G4D Tour BMW PGA.
“It is almost like a home event for me as I only live an hour or so away. Being a Liverpool FC fan, it feels to me like my Anfield in a way, and I love the course. My caddy and I study it closely and we know it like the backs of our hands.
“Preparation has gone very well. I’m loving playing again and was delighted to win in Ireland this week. Trying to win at Wentworth again is really exciting and I love the pressure here, to have that target on my back if you like.”
Popert fired a brilliant 68 at The K Club on Monday to make a winning return to the G4D Tour having been on the sidelines for the first half of the year following foot surgery.
With a strong field set to assemble in England, home favourite Popert is hoping to carry his good form into another week as he continues to enjoy being back in competitive action after a testing six months.
“It’s great to feel fit again,” he added. In January I had my 12th surgery and it was a slow four or five months on crutches and doctors’ appointments, and I was starting to think I was running out of luck.
“To then just make it to the US Adaptive Open in July and shoot 24-under to win it for the third successive time was a dream; to feel the pressure and excitement again like that is what keeps you going through the tough times.
“I love the buzz of these big tournaments and I have no doubt the week will be special.”
Daphne van Houten, who won the women's title at The G4D Open in May, will be in the line-up alongside American Ryanne Jackson. Spain's Juan Postigo Arce tees it up in the event for the second consecutive year, while France's Thomas Colombel, who was in the mix to win The G4D Open earlier this year, makes his first appearance at Wentworth.
