This week sees 11 members of Europe's Ryder Cup team plus Captain Luke Donald and two of his Vice Captains tee it up at the BMW PGA Championship.
The Rolex Series event - staged at the DP World Tour's headquarters at Wentworth Club - has been on the Tour schedule since 1972 and attracts the world's best to take on the famous West Course.
Ryder Cup greats of the past such as Tony Jacklin, Sir Nick Faldo, Seve Ballesteros, Bernhard Langer, Ian Woosnam, José María Olazábal and Colin Montgomerie all have their name on the trophy but how do the current crop compare?
Here, we find out.
Rory McIlroy
Best result: Won (2014)
Made his debut in 2008 but had an uninspiring record initially, registering one top ten and three missed cuts before taking the title in 2014 during a golden summer where he also won The Open Championship and US PGA Championship. Since then he has very much become a Wentworth specialist, finishing second three times - including last season in a run of five consecutive top tens.
Robert MacIntyre
Best result: 12th (2024)
A consistent performer but he has yet to truly get to grips with the West Course in six appearances. He has made five cuts but his best result is 12th which he achieved last season - could his Wentworth form be on the same upward trajectory as the rest of his career?
Tommy Fleetwood
Best result: 6th (2015 and 2023)
The Englishman recently ended his long wait for a first PGA TOUR title and it would be little surprise if he finally won at HQ in his 14th consecutive appearance since his 2012 debut. He has just two missed cuts but also just two top tens with a further four top 20s, including last season's tie for 12th.
Justin Rose
Best result: 2nd (2007 and 2012)
Our most experienced Wentworth campaigner among the Ryder Cup players, Rose is making his 20th appearance since his debut in 2001. He has just four missed cuts (along with a withdrawal) and five top tens, with two of them runner-up finishes, including a play-off loss to Anders Hansen in 2007.
Rasmus Højgaard
Best result: 18th (2022)
The Dane missed the cut on his first two visits to the West Course but then registered a top 20 in 2022. He has comfortably made the weekend in his two further visits and is under par for seven of his 11 rounds at the event.
Tyrrell Hatton
Best result: Won (2020)
A regular visitor as a fan to the BMW PGA Championship, Hatton's victory in 2020 was a childhood dream come true for the home favourite. He had one top ten in his first six visits and after finishing second in 2023 would love to win in front of the crowds, with the Covid-19 pandemic meaning the stands and fairways were empty when he lifted the trophy five years ago.
Shane Lowry
Best result: Won (2022)
The Irishman has never missed this event since his debut in 2010 and it is easy to see why if you look at his record. As well as his win in 2022, he was runner-up in 2014 and has missed just one cut with only two finishes outside the top 20 when making the weekend. Eight of his 12 top 20s have come in his last eight appearances.
Ludvig Åberg
Best result: 10th (2023)
He has just one appearance at Wentworth Club but he made quite the impression on his debut in 2023. Rounds of 68-66-66 handed him a two-shot lead heading into the final round and while a closing 76 saw him slip back, an ominous warning was fired for future editions.
Viktor Hovland
Best result: 5th (2022 and 2023)
The Norwegian missed the event last season through injury but will be looking to pick up where he left off in 2023. After a tie for 11th on debut he finished in a tie for 49th in 2021 but was then fifth in his next two appearances and has only once been over par in his 11 rounds.
Matt Fitzpatrick
Best result: 7th (2020)
Another player to have played every edition he could since his debut in 2016, Fitzpatrick has never missed a cut but never truly contended either. He has two top tens and has never finished outside the top 50 so is not far away and is a man finding excellent form. Could this be the year it finally clicks?
Jon Rahm
Best result: 2nd (2019 and 2022)
Just the three appearances for the two-time Major winner but he has made a huge impact and will come into the week as one of the favourites. He shared the lead after 54 holes on his 2019 debut before losing out to an inspired Danny Willett and in 2022 he finished one shot behind Lowry despite a brilliant closing 62. The Spaniard finished in a tie for fourth in 2023 and every round he has played at Wentworth has been under par.
*Not playing this week: Sepp Straka
Luke Donald - Captain
Best result: Won (2011 and 2012)
A true Wentworth specialist, Donald's run between 2007 and 2014 is one the best the event has ever seen. He finished seventh in 2007 and followed up with a third-place result 12 months later. A tie for 35th followed but in 2010 he finished second and in 2011 defeated Lee Westwood in a play-off to reach World Number One, winning again in 2012 to return to the summit. A rare missed cut came in 2013 before he finished third the following year.
Alex Noren - Vice Captain
Best result: Won (2017)
The Swede had two top tens in his first ten appearances before he made history in 2017, becoming the first winner of a Rolex Series event with a closing 62 that set a long-time target that was never beaten on Sunday. He finished third the following year in an impressive defence and has missed the cut just twice in 15 appearances.
Francesco Molinari - Vice Captain
Best result: Won (2018)
After missing the cut in 2006 and 2008, Molinari would go on to make the weekend at Wentworth in his next 13 appearances while only missing the Covid affected event of 2020. He registered four consecutive top tens from 2012 and finished second in 2017 before getting over the line 12 months later in the same season he won The Open, the Race to Dubai and claimed five points at the Ryder Cup. He also registered a top ten in 2022.
*Not playing this week: Edoardo Molinari, Thomas Bjørn and José María Olazábal.
