Matt Fitzpatrick admits winning the Genesis Scottish Open would be a "big deal" as his recent return to form continues at the Renaissance Club.
The 2022 U.S. Open champion has endured a torrid time by his high standards since lifting the trophy at the 2023 Alfred Dunhill Links Championship, falling from seventh to 77th on the Offical World Golf Ranking.
He was as low as 85th having recorded just three top tens since his victory at St Andrews, but two more in his last five starts suggest he is beginning to turn the corner and get back to his best.
A return to Scotland looks to have helped as he heads into the final round in East Lothian just two shots off the lead, and the Englishman is excited by the propsect of a second Rolex Series title.
"I didn't win last year and that was disappointing," he said. "It's been over 18, 20 months since my last win.
"It would be a big deal. It's been a tough 18 months. Obviously a win tomorrow changes that and hopefully use it as a stepping stone.
"I feel like more confident in my game and the shots that I'm hitting.
"I definitely feel like there's been some good underlying performances that haven't necessarily equalled the results, but I feel like that's one of those where you've got to stay patient and keep doing what you're doing if you feel like it's on the right track and that's where I feel like I'm going."
Fitzpatrick's third-round 69 came after a brilliant 63 on day two and while he was not as pleased with his performance, he was happy to be contending after a frustrating front nine.
"It was OK, solid enough," he said. "Still in the mix and that's what's important.
"I wasn't obviously as content as I was yesterday with my play, but there were some improvements off the tee which was nice."
