Jon Rahm excited to be back at Wentworth Club for 'unique week'

Jon Rahm is excited to return to a happy hunting ground for a "unique week" as he ramps up his Ryder Cup preparations alongside his European team-mates at the BMW PGA Championship.

The two-time Major Champion is back at Wentworth Club in England for this week's Rolex Series event and boasts a fine record there, having never finished outside the top four in three previous visits.

With the Ryder Cup now just two weeks away, this event is the final competitive outing for Luke Donald's European side before they head to Bethpage in New York.

Rahm, who was one of Donald's six Captain's picks, joins many of his team-mates in a star-studded field this week and is pleased to be back at a venue where he enjoys playing golf.

He said: "I feel comfortable every time I play this course. I don't know exactly what it is but it's a golf course I enjoy.

"It's a week I enjoy a lot. It's a fun city to come to. It's a fun golf course to play. I think all that plays a part.

"It's always the end of the year, after playing all the Majors, coming to a unique week like this one, a unique golf course like this one is always a treat.

"I look forward to it and when I can come, it's a fun experience and I hope I can keep the streak alive.

"I think when I say unique, I also mean special in the sense of how much history this tournament has, how many great moments there's been on this golf course.

"Every time you go on the 17th fairway for the first time, it's very difficult not to remember Seve Ballesteros.

"I remember things like that, and I remember the Match Play. I have a lot of images from people in the past. I think that's what makes it special."

With Donald's Team the least changed in Europe's Ryder Cup history - featuring Rasmus Højgaard instead of his twin brother Nicolai in the only alteration from Marco Simone in 2023 - Rahm thinks they are already a step ahead compared to two years ago.

He added: "Luckily the team is similar. Same face, different name, with the Højgaards, I guess.

"And Rasmus was part of the Ryder Cup as well last time, as he was there. I think we are already a step ahead in that sense than we were in Rome.

"But I'm sure we're going to do some of it, the same little routines that we did in Rome that got the team really close together.

"We are all going to be fairly tired Monday morning but I think it's going to be a lot of fun to spend those two days together and get an idea of what the week is going to be like."
