Jacob Skov Olesen will hit yet another landmark in a whirlwind 18 months when he tees it up at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship this week.
The Dane has been on a constant upward trajectory since winning The Amateur Championship last summer, first gaining a HotelPlanner Tour card via the GAP Ranking and then a DP World Tour card at the Qualifying School just weeks later.
And his consistent performances in 2025 have seen the rookie comfortably maintain his playing privileges, forcing his way into the DP World Tour Play-Offs with a tie for the lead at The Open along the way.
He now makes his Rolex Series debut at Yas Links and while he admits his rise has been swift, he knew it was possible from the moment he started gaining momentum.
“If you asked me two years ago I would pinch myself, if you asked me last summer I think I would have said that it was definitely possible,” he said.
“But you’ve got to still go and do it and I think I've done a good job of keeping stacking on the entire season.
“I have played a couple of Majors now so I have played in fields this strong but it’s cool to make it. It’s the elevated events on the DP World Tour so to play in one of these means you’ve done something right.”
Sitting 49th on the Race to Dubai Rankings, the next goal for the 26-year-old is to stay in the top 50 and qualify for next week’s season finale at the DP World Tour Championship.
Olesen admits he has not played a huge amount of desert golf but is hopeful that the links style on Yas Island will help him make his way to the neighbouring Emirate.
“I’ve been on a few training camps down here over the winters but outside of that I haven’t played much tournament golf down here,” he said.
“It’s quite an unusual course compared to what you usually see down here. It should suit me if it plays anything just a little bit like links – I tend to do quite well on links.
"I think it will be fun. The mornings are extremely calm and the afternoons are quite windy so it will be interesting to see how that all plays out.
“It would mean a lot to make it to Dubai. Ever since I locked up my card for next year that was my goal. It would be really nice to tick that one off in my debut season as well. It’s in my own hands which is nice so I’ll try and get the job done.”
