For those vying to win a DP World Tour card for the 2027 season through Qualifying School, the reward on offer takes on greater significance following changes to the DP World Tour membership structure to provide greater schedule certainty and more balanced playing opportunities for all players who earn a card through the existing pathways.
What are the key changes?
The main changes affecting Qualifying School graduates are:
• The cut-off to secure Category 10 through the 2026 Race to Dubai Rankings was reduced from the top 110 (adjusted, with players in addition) to the top 100 (no players in addition). The players who finished 101-110 on the 2026 Race to Dubai Rankings will start the 2027 season in Category 18 and will be initially ranked below the Qualifying School graduates.
• The number of cards available to top finishers on the HotelPlanner Tour into Category 15 was reduced from 20 to 15, with those who finished 16-20 eligible for Category 19.
• The top 15 and ties at the upcoming Final Stage will earn Category 18 membership and start the 2027 Race to Dubai ranked according to their final position at INFINITUM in Spain from November 6-11. This is a reduction from the top 20 and ties last year.
• The leading players from seven international tours will continue to be eligible for Category 17. The next two leading available players from each of PGA Tour of Australasia, Sunshine Tour, Japan Golf Tour, and Asian Tour will be eligible for a full HotelPlanner Tour card, but they will no longer be eligible for Category 18.
How does this impact Q-School graduates?
While the spots available at Final Stage have reduced, those who graduate from Qualifying School will likely be afforded greater schedule certainty on the 2027 Race to Dubai.
With Viktor Hovland, John Parry and Alex Noren, who finished between 101 and 110 on the Rankings, exempt on the DP World Tour next season via an improved membership category there will be a minimum 22 players in Category 18.
However, that number could be bigger depending on the outcome of Final Stage qualifying.
How many starts are they likely to earn?
From last year’s cohort of Qualifying School graduates, players earned a range of 24-15 playing opportunities.
Following the Opening Swing on the 2027 Race to Dubai, which features four events, the top four performing players in Category 18 will be re-ranked, with further such opportunities at the end of the International and Asian Swings before a full re-rank at the end of the KLM Open.
