Yannik Paul could not hide his disappointment after missing the cut at the Genesis Championship which meant he will not keep his DP World Tour card for the 2026 season.
The top 115 in the Race to Dubai Rankings after the final event of the Back 9 of the 2025 campaign in Woo Jeong Hills Country Club will earn their playing privileges for next season.
Paul began the week in the ominous position of 116th place, however, an eight over 79 in his first round in Cheonan derailed any hope of a fifth straight year on the DP World Tour despite shooting level par on Friday.
German Paul narrowly missed out on the 2023 Ryder Cup at Marco Simone in a campaign which saw him record seven top ten finishes, but he will now head for Q-School next month in his bid to stay on tour.
"Yesterday wasn't the main issue. I mean, I had all season to you know, play good enough," Paul said.
"I mean, I had a bit of a slow start, but then had a good finish, and then was until the summer break I was kind of cruising, didn't really get much out of it. And then within three months or so, you could see it like it goes quick here.
"I don't really know really what to say? It is what it is. Obviously disappointed because I knew like with... I obviously have Q-School coming up.
"But I think no matter where you finish there, I don't think you get a lot of starts. So yeah, you might get a couple obviously, but mainly the weak events and then with less cards next year, I think more people will probably play in general.
"So like as a Q-school category, you don't really get into many starts so I knew that there's a big difference if you finish inside the top 115 here.
"Yeah, obviously I have Q-School left, but it doesn't really feel like the same. And yeah, it is what it is.
"I guess you know, the universe had a different plan. It's hard to understand or see that plan at the moment but yeah, it's been... I don't know. It's a weird feeling.
"You know, for three and a half years I felt like I played pretty decent and then a couple of things happen and all of a sudden you don't really have a place to play next year.
"I do feel like I belong out here and just didn't really play well when it mattered. So yeah, obviously pretty devastated, but yeah, it's what it is.
"At the moment obviously I’m quite disappointed. Really disappointed actually.
"I think at some point, I mean, I'm usually a pretty positive person, so I think at some point obviously you make a new plan for next year, but at the moment obviously it's more disappointment than making a plan of what's next."
