The Spaniard entered the second round with a one-shot advantage after his opening 65 yesterday and retained that lead with five birdies and two bogeys to move to ten under par, one ahead of Frenchman Oihan Guillamoundeguy in second.

The 25-year-old entered the week in sixth position on the Road to Mallorca Rankings and he is targeting a second victory of the season in Cadiz, following a maiden HotelPlanner Tour title at the Delhi Challenge earlier this year.

“I played really nice, and I was very consistent,” he said. “I didn’t make many mistakes, and it was great to finish with a birdie. My game feels very solid and I’m striking the ball very nicely.

“It’s so important to be in good positions off the tee because the fairways are very tight. You have to keep the ball in play and also make up and downs whenever you miss the green.

“It’s nice to know that I have the ability to win out here and I will be using those memories in India to help me over the weekend.”

Vidal is hoping to use the home support as a catalyst for success over the weekend as he looks to become just the second player from Spain to win the Challenge de Cadiz, following in the footsteps of Pep Anglès who won the event in 2020.

“It would be amazing to win on home soil because we have such great support this week,” he said.

“It’s very tough in the wind but I have managed my game very well and if I can keep doing that I will be somewhere near the top come Sunday.”

Spanish duo Rocco Repetto Taylor and Mario Galiano Aguilar occupy third position on six under par, while fellow Spaniard Victor Pastor and Joshua Grenville-Wood from the UAE are a shot further back in fifth.
