The Golf Foundation will be the official charity of the BMW PGA Championship in 2025, as the DP World Tour and BMW PGA Championship show their support for the charity’s groundbreaking mental wellbeing work in schools, golf clubs and communities.
The partnership is the culmination of a growing relationship between the three organisations. The Golf Foundation have long worked closely with the DP World Tour, running several community and school events at Tour events in recent years, as well as hosting stands at the British Masters and BMW PGA Championship. BMW, meanwhile, have thrown their support behind Unleash Your Drive in Schools, the Golf Foundation’s mental wellbeing programme that fittingly launched at the BMW PGA Championship in September 2023. BMW raised £89,000 for the Golf Foundation’s programme at the event last year thanks to the Eagles For Education initiative that saw £1,000 donated for every eagle – and this year, they are looking forward to taking the next step together.
Unleash Your Drive in Schools has seen more than 1,500 schools register their interest in delivering the programme of fun and inclusive games to their pupils – and early results indicate that the mental toughness tools embedded within the games have seen young people improve their mental wellbeing and improve their understanding of mental toughness tools, all of which helps to prepare them for challenges on and off the course.
The BMW PGA Championship will once again provide one of the highlights of the golf and sporting calendar when it returns from 11th to 14th September. A world-class field will assemble to take on the famed West Course, with Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and defending champ Billy Horschel all set to tee it up.
As well as the Eagles For Education initiative in 2025, the Golf Foundation will also be the beneficiaries of the charitable activations across the site at the event at Wentworth Club. The ever-popular Mega Putt Challenge and the chipping area will once again be in the Spectator Village, while the Golf Foundation are introducing a new challenge area on their stand as well as a family activity to take part in around the course.
Brendon Pyle, CEO of The Golf Foundation, said: “The Golf Foundation is thrilled to be partnering with two world renown brands at this famous event in the golf calendar. Thanks to the support of BMW and the DP World Tour last year, Eagles for Education helped to introduce 127 more schools and 9,000 pupils to our innovative mental toughness programme and as the official charity partner for 2025 we will be able to help even more more young people with the skills to enjoy success on and off the golf course. We will be supported by an army of volunteers from golf clubs and our partners within golf, and inspired by our President Nick Dougherty who will be hosting our Awards Ceremony in the iconic club house to celebrate the grass roots heroes of golf in GB&I.”
Darrell O’Hora, Championship Director of the BMW PGA Championship at the DP World Tour, added: “Making sure our tournaments leave a positive and lasting community legacy is a core objective for the DP World Tour, and the Golf Foundation are a key strategic partner in delivering on this ambition at the BMW PGA Championship. The various initiatives we have rolled out in recent years have been a big hit with fans and we look forward to another successful year of collaboration this coming September.”
David George, CEO of BMW Group UK and Ireland, added: “We’re pleased to support the Golf Foundation’s work through the BMW PGA Championship in 2025. Encouraging young people to experience the game and build confidence through sport is something we’re proud to be part of at BMW UK.”
