The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship trophy belongs to a Scottish player for the first time in 20 years after Ryder Cup star Robert MacIntyre won the weather-affected 2025 edition.
The host nation enjoyed great success in the event’s early years following its inclusion on the DP World Tour in 2001, with Scottish players winning three of the first five individual titles.
There was then a long drought after 2005 but MacIntyre has now ended the wait for Scottish success at the unique event.
Here is a closer look at the home winners of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.
Paul Lawrie - 2001
Home favourite Lawrie conjured up a miraculous putt from the Valley of Sin on The Old Course at St Andrews to capture the inaugural title by one shot ahead of Ernie Els. Lawrie's 40-foot birdie putt dropped to complete a round of 68 as he finished the week on 18 under par.
Stephen Gallacher - 2004
Scotland’s Gallacher made his long-awaited winning breakthrough on the DP World Tour as he birdied the first extra hole in a sudden-death play-off to beat Graeme McDowell.
Colin Montgomerie - 2005
The home crowds were able to celebrate a second successive Scottish victory as Montgomerie fought off Kenneth Ferrie to win by one stroke. On a tension-packed afternoon of golf at St Andrews that went all the way to the wire, Montgomerie holed a three-foot birdie putt on the 18th green to sign for a 71, while Ferrie posted a disappointing 77 to finish in second.
Robert MacIntyre - 2025
Fresh from helping Europe to a famous victory on American soil at the Ryder Cup a week earlier, MacIntyre treated his adoring home fans to a stunning display in the third and final round of the weather-shortened 2025 edition. With all three courses being used on Sunday, MacIntyre put on a show at St Andrews, carding seven birdies and one bogey in a closing 66 to win by four shots.
