Pablo Larrazábal still keeping 'dream alive' after 19-year run on DP World Tour ends in Korea

Pablo Larrazábal insists he still has more to achieve in the game and will head to Qualifying School determined to keep the dream alive after seeing his 19-year run on the DP World Tour come to an end.

The nine-time DP World Tour winner fell short in his bid to retain playing privileges for 2027, bringing to a close a remarkable spell among the Tour's ranks that began when he earned his card in 2007.

Since making his debut the following season, Larrazábal has established himself as one of the DP World Tour's most familiar and successful faces, claiming nine titles, five runner-up finishes and 65 top tens in 494 appearances.

Knowing he needed a runner-up finish or better at the Genesis Championship to retain his status, the Spaniard arrived in Korea having played nine of the previous ten weeks in a bid to reignite his season. Back-to-back rounds of 73 will see him miss the cut for the 17th time this year, meaning a return to Qualifying School awaits for the first time in almost two decades.

Reflecting on a campaign in which he struggled to find his best form, Larrazábal described the last 20 months as among the toughest of his career.

"Well very, very, very tough," he reflected.

"Yeah, just a very tough moment.

"You know, I think I only stayed like 25 weeks, non-category, non-winners category for 19 years and I had to play my worst golf the season that I had to keep my card. But, it's been a tough 20 months. What changed it all was throwing out the 10th victory in Bahrain last year at the beginning of the season, not making the putt on the last win, it was very tough. It took me a while to get through that one. And this year has been tough. Not having my caddie 100% at the beginning of the season, he had some family problems. They are sorted finally. Not finding my A-game at any point. And yeah, it's tough, it's a tough moment."

Yet despite the disappointment, the 43-year-old remains convinced there are reasons for optimism after seeing encouraging signs in recent months.

"I tried my best," he added.

"I played more events than probably in the last seven, eight years. I played nine of the last ten weeks, trying my best to find that week that gave me hope, but I couldn't.

"In the last three months, I really found something that I didn't find in the prior 15 or 16 months. I had some great moments, but this year I didn't take that momentum. All the good shots and the good holes or the good moments I had only lasted two, three or four holes, and the bad moments always ended up being a bogey or double bogey."

After nearly 20 years without needing to navigate golf's toughest pathway, Larrazábal will now head to Final Stage at Infinitum for the first time since 2007, the venue where he also secured his seventh DP World Tour title at the ISPS HANDA Championship in 2022.

While the challenge ahead is significant, his belief that he can still compete and win at the highest level remains undiminished.

"It's tough to realise that I'm going to go back to Q- School in 12 days, in 11 days after 19 years without going to Q-School, but my dream job is to play the DP World Tour. It's been for the last 26, 27 years.

"Not too many people in the world can say that they have achieved probably 98, 99% of my dreams. But I think I have a couple more years of golf and I think I can still win golf tournaments. But for that, I'm going to have to prepare myself. It's tough to realise all these moments. I cannot put it into words, but you know, it's going to take I have to recover myself. I'm very tired. As I said, I played nine of the last 10 weeks and I have to recover my old body to try to play six good rounds in Infinitum and to try to keep the dream alive.

"I think I want to win one more. I want to win. I want to reach double figures and then 100% of my dreams will come true."
