New events, new players and renowned venues – A busy run-in lies ahead on the G4D Tour

With a place at the G4D Tour Series Finale in Mallorca the primary objective, the upcoming run of four events over a one-month span provides a sense of opportunity for the finest golfers with a disability.

After a three-month break in the schedule, the G4D Tour will pick up at The Belfry for the return of the G4D Tour @ Betfred British Masters. From there, an event in Ireland at The K Club and a new event in France at Golf de Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche will be held either side of the return of another ever-present on the rota in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club.

Since its launch as partnership between the DP World Tour and EDGA - formerly the European Disabled Golf Association - in 2022, the G4D Tour has made ongoing efforts to ensure that golfers across a wider spectrum of disabilities can compete for glory.

That will be in evidence over the coming weeks, with an equal split of two Gross and two Net events, leading up to the G4D Tour Series Finale @ Rolex Grand Final, itself comprising two separate competitions run in parallel from October 30th to November 1st.

In a change first implemented ahead of the 2023-24 G4D Tour, fields for the next four individual events will comprise of the leading eight male and two female players from each ranking. In the case of the event in France, there will be three female players. The top national player is invited, where possible.

Who’s in action?

The G4D Tour is seen as the pinnacle of competition with competitors playing on the same course, in the same week, as the leading tour professionals on the DP World Tour.

Over the upcoming four individual events, a total of 30 different players from 16 countries are set to tee it up over the four G4D Tour events which precede the season climax, which for the first time this year will be held in Mallorca rather than Dubai.

Of those, 13 are in line for their G4D Tour debuts, outside of The G4D Open, a championship held in partnership between The R&A and the DP World Tour and supported by EDGA.

Among those are players from the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Norway, countries which have so far yet to be represented outside of The G4D Open, which earlier this season featured 80 players from 20 countries.

At the Betfred British Masters, Slovenia's Marjan Gavez is set for his first G4D Tour start as the World Number One in the Net rankings.

There are a further four debutants in the field, including fellow above-knee amputees Charles McClelland and Daniel Slabbert, along with Mark Clougherty, who has impaired muscle power, and Johnny Granberg, who underwent amputation on his left foot after being hit by a train in 2012.

At the K Club in Ireland, a host of recognisable players with vast experience of the G4D Tour will return to action.

Among those are Mike Browne, who won when the G4D Tour last visited Ireland during its inaugural season in 2022. Joining the Englishman in the Gross event are World Number One Kipp Popert, home hero Brendan Lawlor and Australia's Lachlan Wood, while Cameroon-born Issa Nlareb, who lost both his legs to bacterial meningitis in 2018, makes his G4D Tour return. Chris Willis of Canada is set for his debut.

Many of the star names will then head to the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, where Popert will be targeting a fourth consecutive title at the Surrey venue. Daphne van Houten, who won the women's title at The G4D Open in May, will also be in the line-up alongside American Ryanne Jackson. Spain's Juan Postigo Arce will also be in action, along with France's Thomas Colombel, who was in the mix to win The G4D Open earlier this year.

At the FedEx Open de France, no fewer than five players are in set for their first G4D Tour start. England's Adam Dalton, who was born with underdeveloped arms and no hands is among those, alongside Czech Republic's Tereza Sršňová, the highest-ranked women in the Net rankings.

How do players qualify for the season climax?

Club de Golf Alcanada in Mallorca will welcome a ten-player field, comprising Gross and Net winners from the 2024-25 G4D Tour season, with the tournament having two separate competitions run in parallel. There will be six players competing in the Gross competition, with four in the Net event.

The winners of the six individual G4D Tour events – including the male and female outright winners at The G4D Open – are guaranteed their place at the three-day season climax from October 30 to November 1.

If a player wins more than one event during the 2025 season, their position is given to the next eligible ranked player on the respective world rankings.

How has the G4D Tour season unfolded so far?

The fourth season of the G4D Tour began in November last year, with Simon Seungmin Lee sealing an emphatic win at the Australian All Abilities Championship in Melbourne's famed Sandbelt.

2022 US Adaptive Open champion Lee, who was diagnosed with a form of autism and developmental disability at three years old, took advantage of a fast start to finish at four under, securing a comprehensive 14-shot victory over Popert and local favourite Wayne Perske.

After a six-month break, the campaign picked up with The G4D Open at Woburn.

Irishman Lawlor, who won the inaugural staging of the Championship in 2023, again lifted the men’s trophy, while Van Houten of The Netherlands defended the women’s title she won 12 months ago.
