We take a look in the bag of Turkish Airlines Open winner Martin Couvra.
As one of the new kids on the block, Martin Couvra has made quite the impression on the DP World Tour.
Even before his breakthrough win as a professional in Türkiye on Sunday, the 22-year-old Frenchman was proving himself to be one of the undoubted emerging talents of European golf.
Since his graduation from the HotelPlanner Tour last season, Couvra amassed four top tens ahead of the opening event of the European Swing at Regnum Carya.
After beginning his rookie campaign on golf’s Global Tour in South Africa at the Alfred Dunhill Championship with the TaylorMade Qi10 driver, three and five woods, he switched to the Qi35s on their release in January.
When adjusting to new surroundings, changes in equipment are common and Couvra added the TaylorMade BRNR mini driver to his bag ahead of the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship, scene of the first of back-to-back top tens during the International Swing alongside the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.
His mini driver – a club designed to be larger than a fairway wood, but smaller than a driver, to help golfers gain more distance and accuracy off the tee than a three wood – was used extensively in Turkey.
But statistically speaking, his victory at Regnum Carya was aided in a large part to his approach play. He was comfortably in the top for Strokes Gained: Approach, SG: Tee to Green and Greens in Regulation.
