Kristoffer Reitan overwhelmed by prospects over closing months of Race to Dubai

Kristoffer Reitan admits the thought of what he can still achieve over the closing months of the season is “overwhelming” as he looks to build on his fine run of form at the Nexo Championship.

A graduate of the HotelPlanner Tour last year, the Norwegian won his maiden DP World Tour title in a play-off at the Soudal Open in May and arrives in Scotland riding a wave of confidence.

Since his triumph in Belgium, realised after a course-record 62 in the final round, which followed a tie for second in China, he has added two further top fives during a stretch that saw him climb from 392nd to inside the top 100 on the Official World Golf Ranking.

Reitan has made every cut at each of his last 11 starts – including on his Major Championship debut at The Open last month – and now sits fifth in the Race to Dubai Rankings, prompting hope he could access the PGA TOUR by becoming a dual member.

With three Rolex Series events at Wentworth and in the Middle East also to come, there is plenty to play for.

“There is a lot of stuff to play for but I kind of just get a little bit overwhelmed thinking about all of it,” said Reitan.

“I just need to keep my head down and play good golf week by week and see where that leads me.

"It [the win in Belgium] changed a little bit how the season looks and my career, not going to lie. It has been really nice."

Prior to the two-week summer break in the schedule, Reitan finished in a tie for 13th at the Genesis Scottish Open and then commendably finished in the top 30 at Royal Portrush.

And while he is not sure whether his game is best suited to the challenge of links golf, the 27-year-old is looking forward to testing it this week over Trump International Golf Links Scotland in Aberdeenshire.

The $2.75million tournament, which previously featured as part of the Race to Dubai in 2020, is the penultimate event in the Closing Swing, and marks the DP World Tour’s first visit to a course that opened in 2012.

“Played 18 holes yesterday and it is magnificent, really nice,” added Reitan.

“It should be interesting to see how the wind plays during the week, but I am excited to play a really top-class golf course.”
