Horsey leads Olesen pursuit

David Horsey made early inroads into Thorbjørn Olesen’s sizeable lead when the final round of the Turkish Airlines Open began at Regnum Carya Golf & Spa Resort.

Some sensational golf over the first three days in Antalya had given Denmark’s Olesen a seven-shot overnight lead on 18 under par as he seeks a fourth European Tour title.

Horsey started the day as part of a five-way tie for second on 11 under, but three birdies in his first four holes took the Englishman to within four of the lead.

Olesen responded with his first gain of the day from 20 feet on the fifth, extending his advantage to five and reaching 19 under.

Austria’s Bernd Wiesberger lay third on 12 under through six holes, with the likes of George Coetzee, Matteo Manassero and Adrian Otaegui – all of whom need a strong finish to climb into the Race to Dubai’s top 67 and prolong their Final Series by qualifying for next week’s Nedbank Golf Challenge – among those on 11 under.

Horsey birdied the seventh and then rattled in a 30 footer at the ninth to get to 16 under.

And with Olesen finishing his back nine with a wayward drive followed by a three-putt for bogey, the gap was down to two to set up an exciting back nine.

Wiesberger carded four straight birdies before the turn and at 15 under had also given himself a chance.
