Once again, Scotland has the honour of welcoming the world’s best golfers and golf fans to host the Genesis Scottish Open at the Renaissance club in East Lothian.
East Lothian is renowned for its golf courses and stunning landscapes, and so it is great to see the tournament return here for the fifth consecutive year.
Last year, Scotland successfully delivered an exceptional summer of golf, hosting five high-profile tournaments across the men’s and women’s games. A special congratulations to our reigning champion, Bob MacIntyre, for his outstanding performance in last year’s tournament.
Scotland is a world-leading tourism and events destination, and our portfolio of golf events help maintain Scotland’s worldwide reputation as the ‘Home of Golf’. Golf is deeply rooted within the country, having been played here since the 16th century. For us, it is more than just a sport – it is part of our national heritage.
My sincere thanks to the DP World Tour, the PGA TOUR, Genesis and all the other partners for their continued commitment to the Scottish Open. To all those attending, whether you are a returning spectator or joining us for the first time, I wish you a memorable and enjoyable experience. To all the players, I wish you the best of luck.
RT Hon John Swinney MSP, First Minister of Scotland
