The Farmfoods Scottish Challenge supported by The R&A takes place this week, from July 31-August 3 at SCHLOSS Roxburghe. Here are three players to keep an eye on…
Form horse: Joshua Berry
Joshua Berry hit the summit of the Road to Mallorca Rankings following his tied second finish at the German Challenge powered by VcG earlier this month. The Englishman carded four rounds in the 60s at Wittelsbacher Golfclub to continue a fine run of form that stems back to May’s Raiffeisenbank Golf Challenge.
Berry ended the week in a tie for ninth at Golf Resort Kaskáda, having held a share of the 54-hole lead. A month later, back in Czechia at the D+D REAL Czech Challenge, the 20-year-old produced an 18 under par four-round total to finish inside the top ten.
With three top tens in his last four starts, Berry is the man in-form ahead of the Farmfoods Scottish Challenge.
Local boy: David Law
Scot David Law will this week make his first appearance since returning to the winner’s circle at the D+D REAL Czech Challenge three weeks ago, where he posted a closing seven under par round of 63 to finish two shots clear of a four-way tie for second. Law has history at the Scottish Challenge too, previously winning the 2018 edition with a 72-hole total of 11 under par.
Currently fifth on the Road to Mallorca Rankings, Law looks on track to earn promotion back to the DP World Tour at the first time of asking and could become the first Scot to top the Rankings since Marc Warren 20 years ago should he win this week.
Outsider: Eddie Pepperell
It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks for two-time DP World Tour winner Eddie Pepperell. The Englishman, whilst in a share of the lead ahead of the final round, was forced to withdraw from the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge due to injury and subsequently missed the Interwetten Open and D+D REAL Czech Challenge.
However, having taken time away from the course, Pepperell returned at the German Challenge powered by VcG and pieced together four rounds in the 60s to end the week in a tie for eighth. After a positive showing in his last two events, the 34-year-old is one to watch as he eyes a first professional victory since he triumphed at the 2018 Sky Sports British Masters.
