Emil Ejlersen eyes Grand Final berth in China

Anders Emil Ejlersen is looking to extend his season when he tees it up at this week’s Hangzhou Open at Hangzhou West Lake Golf Club, the penultimate event on the 2025 Road to Mallorca.

The Dane, who sealed a maiden HotelPlanner Tour title at the Dormy Open back in August, has his sights set on a first appearance at the Rolex Grand Final supported by The R&A and the chance to contend for promotion to the DP World Tour.

Emil Ejlersen currently sits 49th in the season-long Road to Mallorca Rankings, and with the top 45 currently projected to reach the Rolex Grand Final, the 26-year-old needs a strong week in the second of back-to-back HotelPlanner Tour events in China.

“My ultimate goal is to get to Mallorca and finish inside the top 45 but I know there’s a long way to go,” he said.

“The victory in Sweden has sunk in now and I am 100 per cent focussed on being here, trying to get ready to play well, finishing as well as I can and hopefully getting into Mallorca.

“Just playing here is a huge bonus for me but making Mallorca would be insane. If you go to Mallorca, you have a chance to become a DP World Tour player, which is a lifelong dream for me. It would be an amazing experience.”

Emil Ejlersen started the year playing primarily on the Nordic Golf League, but made the most of a late invite into the Dormy Open, going on to secure a one-stroke victory with a four round total of 24 under par.

The Dane, who hasn’t missed a cut since his breakthrough victory, admitted he’s only just come to terms with his current position as the climax of the season approaches.

“I was playing on the Nordic Golf League for four years, managed to get an invite to the Dormy Open, now all of a sudden, I am here in China,” he added.

“Sweden was my fourth event. I got an invite, went up there and it was just a great week. It was a fairytale for me and everything just went well. I think what I am most proud of was the mental side of winning the golf tournament.

“I was never nervous or anything and when I look back now, I get nervous just thinking about it.”

Emil Ejlersen sits 30 points behind Max Kennedy on the Road to Mallorca Rankings, with the Irishman currently occupying the final Rolex Grand Final spot. With 750 additional Ranking points available this week, the 26-year-old feels his game is well-suited to take advantage at Hangzhou West Lake Golf Club.

“It’s one of the better set-ups I’ve ever played to be honest,” he said.

“It’s 18 really good holes and it will test every aspect of your game. I’ll have to find something with the putter, but I think it suits me pretty well.

“I am looking to treat this week as any other tournament and prepare as well as I possibly can.”

The Dane is part of a strong field in China, which includes Road to Mallorca Number One JC Ritchie, two-time DP World Tour winner James Morrison and Renato Paratore, a three-time winner on the HotelPlanner Tour this season.

The first round of the Hangzhou Open gets under way at 6:30am local time with Emil Ejlersen teeing off at 11:10am alongside Kennedy and China’s Yanhan Zhou.
