The Dormy Open returns to the Road to Mallorca schedule this week at Upsala Golf Club, Uppsala, Sweden. Here are three players to keep an eye on…
Form horse: Filippo Celli
Filippo Celli arrives in Sweden fresh off winning The Dutch Futures, and the Italian’s maiden HotelPlanner Tour triumph was only a matter of time. The 24-year-old, who won the Silver Medal at The 150th Open at St Andrews, has been one of the most consistent performers on the Road to Mallorca over the past two months, registering four top-five finishes in his past five events.
Following his victory at The Dutch, Celli climbed six places to third on the Rankings and will be looking to take advantage at Upsala, with David Law and Oihan Guillamoundeguy, Number One and Two on the Rankings, taking the week off. Given his recent string of impressive finishes, the Italian hitting the top of the leaderboard once more wouldn’t come as a surprise.
Local boy: Tobias Jonsson
Tobias Jonsson will tee it up at his home HotelPlanner Tour event as the highest ranked Swede on the Road to Mallorca, looking to boost his chances of earning promotion to the DP World Tour for the first time. 2025, so far, has been the standout year of the 25-year-old’s career, with back-to-back top-five finishes, coming at the Swiss Challenge and Raiffeisenbank Golf Challenge, clear evidence Jonsson has what it takes to compete for a maiden title this week.
Despite finishing ten shots back of Celli in the Netherlands, Jonsson fired a closing four under par round of 67 to end the week on a positive note and will head to compete in a second Dormy Open in confident mood. Sitting 21st in the Rankings, Jonsson will be eager to build momentum with six events to play before the Rolex Grand Final supported by The R&A.
Outsider: Andoni Etchenique
Frenchman Andoni Etchenique has found form in his past two starts on the Road to Mallorca, coming at the Vierumäki Finnish Challenge supported by Finnish Golf Union and The Dutch Futures. Etchenique’s third round in Finland, which included seven birdies, saw him head into the final day with a one-shot lead. A closing one over par round of 73 saw the 27-year-old’s week end on a sour note, however Etchenique followed up his performance at the Cooke Course with four sub-par rounds in tough conditions at The Dutch Futures.
Having shown glimpes of form in recent weeks, the Frenchman stands an outside chance at Upsala as he eyes a maiden HotelPlanner Tour victory.
