Everything you need to know from the second round at The Belfry Hotel & Resort.
Marcel Siem took the outright lead and the Fitzpatrick brothers impressed on home soil on day two of the 2025 Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo.
Here is everything you need to know from the second round at The Belfry Hotel & Resort.
Siem in front at halfway stage
First-round co-leader Siem shot a 69 that contained an eagle and four birdies on Friday to open up a one-shot lead on nine under par. But he felt he could have gone even lower. He said: "It was a great start. My ego took over a little on the back nine because I hit really good shots. On the 18th I got a bit unlucky with my drive, had a bad lie and missed the first short putt. Then the first, I had two great shots. Misread that putt. On the second, I hit a great drive. I thought it was in the fairway. It bounced to the right apparently, pretty bad lie. Misread that putt for par as well. Next hole as well. Next hole as well. Then I finally hole one on the next, misread it again. Felt like I could have shot a bit lower than today. So my ego took a bit over. That's why you didn't see me smiling. I will be smiling soon."
Moscatel makes awesome albatross
Spaniard Joel Moscatel enjoyed a day to remember as he holed his second shot at the par-five 17th for an albatross. The rare bird helped him finish just above the cut line on level par. Well done, Joel.
Staying patient pays off for Alex Fitzpatrick
After a disappointing start to the 2025 season, home favourite Alex Fitzpatrick has prioritised staying patient over the first two days at The Belfry. And he has reaped the rewards, with back-to-back 69s taking him into the weekend on six under. When asked what had pleased him most so far this week, Fitzpatrick said: "I would have to say my mental game more than anything. It's been a pretty rough start to the year. So kind of battling a lot of things and feel like I did a really good job the past couple of days of kind of staying patient and keeping myself present in the shots that I'm hitting. So I would have to put it down to that."
And Matt Fitzpatrick finishes with a flourish
Alex's brother Matt saved his best until last as he trickled in his 22-foot birdie putt on the 18th to move to eight under and within one shot of halfway leader Siem. The Major winner is definitely one to watch this weekend.
Willett's tasty chip
Major Champion Danny Willett made his fifth birdie of the day with this delightful chip-in at the eighth hole. He sits five shots off the lead on four under at the midway point.
