Ben Schmidt admitted he had been patiently waiting all season for a low score after equalling the course record at the Danish Golf Championship.
The 23-year-old Englishman surged up the leaderboard to set the initial clubhouse target at nine under thanks to his brilliant 64 on Moving Day at Furesø Golf Klub.
Schmidt, who earned his 2025 DP World Tour playing privileges through Q-School at the end of last year, got hot on the front nine as he rolled in four straight birdies from the third before adding another at the eighth to reach the turn in 30.
He was at seven under overall at this point and the Rotherham native continued his momentum with birdies at the 13th and 16th to threaten the course record, which was jointly held by Marco Penge and Rasmus Højgaard.
His only dropped shot of the day came at the penultimate hole, but he bounced back with a stunning approach into the last to close with a birdie and sign for a seven-under third round.
"Yeah, very pleased," Schmidt said. "I think I've been waiting for that all season to be honest.
"I've played well all season, it's just the putts haven't been dropping and I feel like today that all happened so I'm very pleased with it.
"I feel like my game is trending in the right direction. Last week was a good result in tough conditions and I was hoping to bring some of that good form into this week.
"I've got a nice stretch of events coming up and I was looking to get some good results, which starting last week and having a good week so far this week, it's pleasing to see.
"Hundred per cent (I've been working on my putting). Even yesterday after coming off the course, I was on the putting green just trying to dial in some pace, looking at some line and green reading and I feel like me and my caddy figured something out this morning.
"I kind of put that in play today and I putted really well, probably the best I've putted all season. So really happy with that.
"To start with (my goal would be) to keep my card on the Tour, this year I'm playing on Q-School category and it's tough. So I feel like for a starting point, if I can keep a card on here that will give me a better schedule for next year.
"And then there's little goals that we keep to ourselves, I'm not sure I'm going to share them all, but that's the main goal and then I can work from there."
