Volvo China Open: Fantasy DP World Tour ones to watch

As the DP World Tour continues its Asian Swing with the Volvo China Open, here is all that players of our official Fantasy game need to know.

After the opening Major Championship of the season, the Masters Tournament, the Race to Dubai schedule makes the first of back-to-back visits to China this week.

With a purse of US$2.55 million, the 30th edition of the Volvo China Open welcomes DP World Tour regulars, rising stars and top local talents to Enhance Anting Golf Club in Shanghai.

Adrian Otaegui is the defending champion, and the Spanish-born Emirati is joined by a strong field featuring eight players who have won so far this season on the DP World Tour.

Among those are China's number one Haotong Li, the 2016 Volvo China Open, who will draw big crowds along with Ashun Wu and Wenyi Ding.

Also in action are Asian Swing number one Keita Nakajima, last season's HotelPlanner Tour Road to Mallorca champion Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen and recent first-time DP World Tour winner Eugenio Chacarra.

From insight into the week’s most-picked players among Fantasy managers, to our ones to watch, we run the rule ahead of Thursday’s deadline to pick your team.

Who are the most backed players?

Home hero Li is the early favourite with our players, featuring in just over 71% of teams but there is not much between him and Nakajima, who has been picked by 65% of players.

There is then a drop to Matthew Jordan, Neergaard-Petersen and Shaun Norris - who has already sealed a win and three other top tens this season - who are all around the 46% mark.

Who are our ones to watch?

Here, we pick out three players in action this week who are worth considering for your Fantasy team selections.

Favourite - Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen

It says a lot about Neergaard-Petersen's rise in the game that in a field full of DP World Tour winners with hundreds of appearances under their belt, the Dane who has played just 22 events is the bookies' favourite. After winning three times last season on the HotelPlanner Tour to earn instant status on the DP World Tour, he racked up enough points in just six Back 9 events to move his exemption into Category 10, ensuring an almost full schedule for 2025. And he has taken full advantage, with a top ten in his season-opener in Australia and on his Rolex Series debut in Dubai. He finished second at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters and then repeated the feat on his PGA TOUR debut at the Puerto Rico Open last month. Another PGA TOUR top 25 at the Valspar Championship last time out has also helped to justify his Favourite tag and a debut DP World Tour win cannot possibly be far away.

Form Horse - Keita Nakajima

Regular readers of this weekly feature will know that this is not the first time the Japanese has been highlighted among our ones to watch. Most recently, he was our Favourite heading into the Hero Indian Open, where he finished runner-up on his title defence after doing so too a week earlier in Singapore at Laguna National. Those fine performances mean the 24-year-old leads the Asian Swing Rankings ahead of a double-header in China, with the Hainan Classic to follow next week. After playing his way onto the DP World Tour ahead of the 2024 season through a pathway formed with the Japan Golf Tour, he came close to earning dual membership status with the PGA TOUR at the end of last season. But his strong start to this campaign leaves him inside the top 10 on the Race to Dubai ahead of this week, and it would come as no surprise if he was to capitalise on his momentum and land silverware.

Wild Card - Jin Zihao

In the midst of his first full season on the DP World Tour, there will be keen interest in this home hero. After coming through Qualifying School in his homeland, Zihao went on to emerge as the breakout star on the China Tour as he won five times to cruise to the Order of Merit title and claim status to play on the DP World Tour. Across his opening six starts, the 26-year-old has made three cuts with his first top ten on the DP World Tour coming at the Magical Kenya Open presented by absa in February. It is often said that home knowledge counts and on his two starts on home soil at events co-sanctioned by the HotelPlanner Tour, he finished in the top 20 on both occassions. Coming into the week inside the world's top 500, he will be confident of bettering his tie for 35th at his national championship from last year.
