Lowry leads the way after birdie burst

A brilliant back-nine birdie blitz saw Ryder Cup hero Shane Lowry hit the front on day one. Keita Nakajima had led for much of the day after posting a seven-under-par 65 in the morning but afternoon starter Lowry managed to leapfrog him after making eight birdies in a bogey-free 64. After turning in 34, the Irishman reeled off five birdies in a row from the 11th before finishing with a birdie from four feet to open up a one-shot lead. He said: "I feel like this type of golf course suits me. I spend half the year moaning about golf courses that are too wide, so when I get to somewhere like here, I need to take advantage of that, and I did that today and hopefully I can keep doing that for the rest of the week."

Armitage's drink stop pays off

Marcus Armitage might find himself visiting the drinks stall near the 12th hole every day after what happened on Thursday. With the sun beating down, the Englishman bought himself a drink before going on to chip in for a birdie. Check this out...

Gangjee's big finish

Rahil Gangjee saved his best until last, wowing his home crowds with a long-range eagle from just off the 18th green. The 47-year-old Indian signed for an opening 67 to sit three shots off the lead after 18 holes.
