Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo - Day three digest

Everything you need to know from Moving Day at The Belfry Hotel & Resort.

A home hero rose to the top of the leaderboard while Angel Hidalgo put on a show on day three of the 2025 Betfred British Masters hosted by Sir Nick Faldo.

Here is everything you need to know from Moving Day at The Belfry Hotel & Resort.

Former champion Fitzpatrick hits the front

Home favourite Matt Fitzpatrick, winner of this event ten years ago, will take a one-shot lead into the final round after signing for a 68 which featured a chip-in eagle on the 15th. The Englishman, who is hoping to catch the eye of European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald before he makes his picks for next month's biennial showpiece in just over one week, did his chances no harm as he carded an eagle, four birdies and two bogeys to reach 12 under par. Fitzpatrick will have another past champion on his tail on Sunday, with Swede Alex Noren his nearest challenger on 11 under.

Hidalgo makes slam-dunk ace

Hidalgo produced early fireworks on day three as he made a slam-dunk hole-in-one at the seventh hole on Saturday morning. After opening his third round with six straight pars, the Spaniard sent his tee-shot at the par three over the water and straight into the hole with an eight iron from 156 yards. The popular 27-year-old celebrated in style before repairing the hole after retrieving his ball. Hidalgo's is the 22nd hole-in-one of the season so far.

...And then holes out again

There was more magic to come from Hidalgo at the 14th as he holed his bunker shot for an unlikely birdie on the par three.

Penge ties course record to storm into contention

Last week's winner Marco Penge continued his fine form as he carded nine birdies and no bogeys in a flawless third-round 63 to equal the course record. He made a huge leap up the leaderboard in the process, moving to ten under par to sit two shots off the lead with one round remaining. Home hope Penge admitted trying to make the Ryder Cup team is on his mind. He said: "That has been my goal ever since I felt I had the chance to be in the mix to be even talked about. I sensed a couple of weeks ago that there was an opportunity."

Rasmus Højgaard still in Ryder Cup qualification hunt

Another player who is very much in the Ryder Cup picture is Rasmus Højgaard, who can still qualify automatically by finishing in a two-way tie for 29th or better this week. He is well on course to achieve that, sitting on seven under, five shots off the lead with 18 holes to play. The Dane said: "I know what position I need to finish. But what that means tomorrow score-wise, I don't know. It's not something I'm going to look too much into. You know, I'm still hopefully within reach of the tournament tomorrow. So my focus is still to try and chase down and have a chance." His brother Nicolai is just two shots off the lead after his 67 in round three.

Amateur Adam in the mix

After opening with rounds of 71 and 70, Scottish amateur Cameron Adam catapulted himself into the mix for a stunning title tilt at The Belfry with a flawless 66 on Saturday. A birdie-birdie finish left him three shots off the lead, with the potential for him to become just the fourth amateur to win a DP World Tour title after Pablo Martin Benavides, Danny Lee and Shane Lowry. Adam said: "Just going to try and take every day at a time. I played a great one today and got myself up there, so just the same again tomorrow."
